Myrath @ Szene, Vienna 2026

Hot on the heels of the release of their critically acclaimed new album Wilderness of Mirrors, Myrath returned to enchant the Viennese crowd with their hypnotising brand of oriental power metal – or, as they call it, “Metal from the Sands”, which couldn’t describe their unique and catching sound any better.

French-Tunisians Myrath kick off their setlist with “The Funeral”, which is also the opening track on Wilderness Of Mirrors. The sheer, unadulterated joy demonstrated by the band at every turn and their passion for music and artistry sparks an immediate reaction from the crowd, which is on fire from the get-go. The hypnotic arrangements, the diversity of sounds transcending genres is only enhanced by the great talent of each individual musician and particularly vocalist Zaher Zorgati, who conjures pure magic with his voice.

As if that didn’t suffice, the incredible fusion belly dancer Anastasia makes her first appearance in a stunning costume during the catchy “Dance” from the “Shehili” album, hypnotising the crowd even further with her elegant feminine wiles. She returns to the stage a number of times, demonstrating her talents with an alluring veil fan dance and an in turn penetrating sword dance.

Zorgati does his utmost to connect with the Vienna crowd, telling stories about his limited knowledge of the German language, or explaining the story behind the new song “The Clown” (which he announced one song too early, as kindly reminded by masked sticksman Morgan Berthet, who amusingly emerged from his kit to correct his singer’s setlist slip).

After over an hour Myrath, leave the crowd hungry for more with “Soul of my Soul”, before reappearing for an encore with “Les Enfants du Soleil”, a short drum solo with “Jasmin”, and the hit song “Believer”, where everyone is encouraged to sing along.

Opening for Myrath this evening was Roses of Thieves, a young Hungarian band whose talented frontwoman Ivett Dudas demonstrates an impressive range, including even some first-class guttural growling. Their uplifting sound offers a mix of folksy power metal melodies with live accordion and poppy, danceable tunes. With their unlikely cover of “Boys” (yes, that Sabrina), the band manages to catch and hold the attention of the crowd. Perchance everyone’s cup of tea, but Roses of Thieves is certainly an entertaining opening act that keeps energy levels in the venue high for over 40 minutes. Zorgati even invited Dudas on stage for the duet from the new album, “Until the End” (originally performed with Elize Ryd).

And so we in Vienna would love to sing along even more with Myrath in the future, the standalone Tunisians demonstrating once more what an incredibly talented and original sound they contribute to a world that certainly needs more of that!
